Our Founder

Most Rev. Dr. Aesu Malayappan Chinnappa SDB D.D Ph.D., has ever remained a voice for the voiceless and marginalized. His life is a facinating story - a story of a shepherd boy who became the shepherd of the Church. He had been the bishop of Vellore for 12 years and the archbishop of Madras-Mylapore for 7 years.

He has also served the Church in various capacities - as the President of TNBC, Chairman of the SC/ST Commission, CBCI, and president of many foundations and organizations. He has worked tirelessly for the empowerment of Dalits and marginalized and fought against all forms of injustice in the society.

His mastery over Western and Karnatic music is well acclaimed. Even his adversaries would admire his singing. His life is a source of inspiration to many.

Early Life

Founder was born in Ayandur, Villupuram District on 23rd July 1937 to Mr. Malayappan and Mrs. Ubagara Mary. It was then a substation of Mugaiyur Parish of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry-Cuddalore. Eventhough born in poverty and disadvantaged by discrimination, he completed his schoolling in Ayandur High School, St. Gabriel's Chennai and Don Bosco, Gandhi Nagar, Vellore.

He did his Teacher Training Course with MEP Fathers in Tindivanam. It is here, he made his iconinc composition of Psalm 104 on January of 1960. He later worked as Headmaster at Chennathur, Arni.

As Salesian

Desiring to follow Our Blessed Lord more closely, he joined Salesians of Don Bosco in 1962 and made his first profession on 25-05-1964. He was ordained a Priest on 16 December 1972. He served in various capacities at Broadway, Perambur, Katpadi. He went for Higher Studies to Rome from 1982 - 1984. He later served in Varadarajanpet and K.Pudur. It was in K. Pudur, he was elected to Bishop of Vellore by Pope St. John Paul II.

Bishop and Archbishop

He served the diocese of Vellore from 1994-2005. Durring this period he concentrated on providing education services for poor and underpriviledged. He understook and successfully completed the stupendous task of building a new cathedral for the diocese. It was opened in 1999. He served as the archbishop of Chennai-Mylapore from 2005-2013. He worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the downtrodden.

Founder, Society of God's Reign

He started Society of God's Reign on August 24, 2011 to serve the oppressed and the downtrodden. He continues to serve the church by froming candidate to serve the church and especially the marginalized and neglected section of the society.
